Jorhat: A collision between an army vehicle and a civilian vehicle in Upper Assam's Jorhat district on Monday (October 26) night gave rise to tensions in the town.

Last night, there was a collision betweeen a Mariani to Jorhat bound army vehicle ( 03D/53778L) and a private vehicle (MZ01N4355). According to reports, the Mariani-headed vehicle was badly damaged in the accident.

The driver of the private vehicle complained that the army vehicle was coming at a very high speed and did not allow it to pass. "The army vehicle also damaged the check gate under the Sinnamora Police Station," he informed.

There have also been allegations that the driver of the army vehicle was under the influence of alcohol.

After this incident, there was a spat between the driver of the army vehicle and police personnel of the Sinnamora police station who reached the spot to take stock of the incident.

Later, the army vehicle was hauled off to the local police station. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Anil Kumar, was also taken to the police station. The army vehicle is still being kept at the station. The driver, however, has been released.

Notably, it has come to light that Anil Kumar misbehaved with scribes who had reached the site of the accident to report on the incident.

"It is to be seen what kind of action the Jorhat police authorities will take here," a local journalist told media.
