Assam: Thief Shot Dead in Hindustan Paper Corporation's Cachar Paper Mill 

Hailakandi, November 4, 2019:

A gang of four to five thieves armed with lethal weapons barged into the Hindustan Paper Corporation's Cachar paper mill at Panchgram in Hailakandi district of Assam at around 3.45 pm on Sunday to steal the equipment lying there.

Three private security guards of HPC spotted them while they were about to decamp with the stolen goods. The group of armed thieves on seeing the security guards, rushed towards them and attacked them.

One of the security guards opened fire in self defence and the bullet hit one of the thieves. The rest of the gang of thieves fled away from the scene. The  injured was rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

SP Pabindra Kumar Nath, along with other police officials, rushed to the spot and started an inquiry into the incident. Nath said the identity of the deceased is yet to be identified and investigation is on.

Meanwhile, the police has seized the 12 bore double barrel gun of the security guard.

Cases of theft in the defunct paper mill of HPC have been on the rise, the most recent one being reported about a month ago.
