Three passengers, along with the driver of a Tata Magic vehicle, died after it collided with a coal-laden truck on Monday at Powai in Assam’s Margherita.
The Tata Magic vehicle was carrying 9 passengers in it. 5 injured passengers were rushed to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh for medical assistance.
According to locals, the incident took place early in the morning today during the wee hours at NH 37, at Powai under the Margherita sub-division.
The deceased driver has been identified as Bisu Das (aged 29) of Margherita, whereas, the other three passengers have been identified as Jairam Sah (aged 45), Jaleswar Giri (aged 49) and Urmila Devi (aged 48), all hailing from Jagun.
The Tata Magic vehicle bears Registration No AS 01 JC 2935 and the coal-laden truck bears Registration No AS 23 CC 3431.
According to sources, illegal coal trade risen exponentially in Jagun, Ledo, Barogolai, Aradhara and Phinbiro under the Margherita the sub-division. 1,000 Trucks carrying illegal coal ply from the National Highway roads on a daily basis.
Ruing the state-of-affairs, locals have alleged that Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Margherita Administration (Civil), Digboi Forest Division and Margherita Police have not taken any noticeable steps to stop the illegal coal trade.
