ASSAM:  TWO SISTERS ATTEMPTS SUICIDE. ONE DIES, ANOTHER BATTLING FOR LIFEsuicide

A tragic incident of suicide shuddered the Betbari  region of Sivsagar district of Assam. Two sisters by the name Sujata Gogoi and Sukanya Gogoi tried committing suicide this morning. The former hanged herself only to meet her untimely death, the latter still is fighting for her life in Assam Medical College Hospital after consuming litres of kerosene.

It is reported that the sisters unable to withstand the atrocities of their drunkard father took such a step. The girls were long time victims of mental harassment inflicted by their father.

Such an incident has created sensation across the state. Sujata Gogoi, the elder sister was an adept Taekwondo player.  The deceased was a black belt holder and have played in International Open Tournament in Bhutan. The residents of the district stated that Sujata has worked selflessly for the welfare activities of the district which includes opening of a sports club. Her untimely death is a huge loss to the district.

Sukanya Gogoi, the younger sister is a student of Sivsagar Girls’ College and an active Student Worker. The entire region laments over such a tragic incident.
