Assam | ULFA(I) Cadre Apprehended in Golaghat

Golaghat, June 22, 2019:

A cadre of the proscribed militant outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), has surrendered before the Golaghat police on Friday.

The cadre has been identified as Numal Sara alias Simanta Asom.

Simanta Asom joined ULFA in 2011 and underwent training in neighboring country Myanmar. He hails from Nakkati in Assam’s Dergaon. However, the cadre has not surrendered any arms.

Interrogation of the cadre is on.

It may be mentioned that Security personnel arrested a United Liberation Front of Asom, Independent (ULFA-I) linkman from Chengapathar under Tongona Police Station in Tinsukia district on June 10.

The ULFA (I) linkman has been identified as Ridip Neog alias Rounto. The 36-year old ULFA cadre Ridip is the son of Bhangeshwar Neog of Chengapathar village.

The linkman was arrested based on a specific input. A joint operation was launched by Tinsukia Police along with 68 Bn CRPF, 210 Bn Cobra team – 01 camp Tinsukia and 23 Punjab.

Following the arrest of Ridip, the security personnel carried out search operation in his house and recovered two PEK sticks, two electronic detonators with wires, one 12V- 5A battery and four mobile phones from the place.

This is another setback to the militant group after the demise of a top commander of the separatist outfit called Rupantar Axom, who died in Myanmar on Monday.

Rupantar Asom alias Diganta Baruah died of a heart attack in a camp of the rebel outfit.
