Guwahati, October 5, 2019:

The registrar of Assam University Dr. Sanjib Bhattacharya was suspended for his alleged involvement against 'Varsity interest'.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Dilip Chandra Nath has issued the suspension letter on Friday. In absence of the registrar, the joint registrar (administration) Dr Prodoshkiran is the registrar in-charge and Dr Sumanosh Dutta took charge as the VC during Nath’s absence.

Surprisingly, the suspension letter was issued after the registrar left for his vacation.

The suspension letter was issued under Central Civil Services (CCS) rule 10 (1).

Assam University is a teaching-cum-affiliating Central University in Silchar, Assam, India. The university has sixteen schools which offer Humanities, Languages, Environmental Sciences, Information Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Technology and Management Studies.

Assam University came into existence in 1994 after enactment of the Assam (Central) University Act 1989.
