'Veer Lachit Sena' chief Shrinkhal Chaliha has urged the 'soldiers' of the indigenous body to stay safe and appealed the people of Assam to continue protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He was produced before the CJM court in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Shrinkhal Chaliha was arrested by police from Dibrugarh on December 23 and is being currently kept at the Barpeta jail in Assam. He is under judicial custody.
Speaking with Inside Northeast, advocate Rinku Hazarika, who has been handling Shrinkhal’s case, said that he has been booked under many sections of the IPC and most of those are non-bailable offences. His next hearing will be held on January 9 at the High Court.

“He was booked under a common FIR by the CID under 30/19 which was lodged on December 16 against anyone who protests against CAA. But he was arrested on December 23 and produced in the CJM court, where he was ordered two-day police custody and later sent to jail in Barpeta,” Hazarika added.
As per the case diary, Shrinkhal will be produced before the Gauhati High Court on January 9.
Shrinkhal Chaliha is booked under the following cases:
120B- Punishment of criminal conspiracy. Punishable with death, or imprisonment for life or rigorous imprisonment for a term of two years or upwards.
121- Waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India. Punishable with death, or imprisonment for life and shall also be liable to fine.
121A- Conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 121. Punishable with imprisonment for life or with imprisonment of either description which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.
122- Collecting arms, etc., with intention of waging war against the Government of India. —Punishable with imprisonment for life or imprisonment of either description for a term not exceeding ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.
123- Concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war. —Punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine
147- Punishment for rioting. -- Punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
148- Rioting, armed with deadly weapon. Punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both
150- Hiring, or conniving at hiring, of persons to join unlawful assembly.
153- Want only giving provocation with intent to cause riot Punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine,
153A- Promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony. Punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three years, or with fine,
326- Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means. -- Punishable with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine,
333- Voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty. Punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine,
353- Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty. Punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
