Assam: Villagers catch illegal immigrants trying to enter via river in Cachar

When the whole world is combatting against the pandemic covid19, the illegal immigrants are trying their best to enter the International Border near Malidor Village, Cachar, Assam.

The incident happened on Thursday when 4 illegal immigrants were trying to cross Malidor River in Assam which is closed by the International border fencing of India and Bangladesh. The villagers caught them without any valid document except two of them with their ID and Valid Passport. Later the Villagers informed the local Police Out-Post and they were taken to the Out-Post and kept under Gumra Out-Post.

The villagers report us that those 4 illegal immigrants could not produce their valid ID proof so that might be the reason they are trying to go back to Bangladesh from Assam. The Villagers and All India Karbi Students Union (AIKSU) condemned the Border Security Force (BFS) for their failure and the State Government for not taking the matter with any seriousness. "Our demand is to conduct immediate verifications in International Border areas and punished as per the law stated Bikram Hanse", said the organisation. This issue of infiltration has also been the reason for the opposition of CAA in the Parliament House, by the students' Organisations AASU, NESO, NEFIP, and 30 Ethnic Tribal Organisation. More such circumstances are happening on the international border of Northeast India and Bangladesh.

Recently, questions on border safety arose when 10 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in Tripura amid lockdown. The arrest from the Rajnagar area of Joypur under West Tripura district located in the vicinity of Agartala has triggered panic and a sense of insecurity among the locals prompting them to question the safety of the city. Albeit, the police have said that they entered the state seven months back with the help of some agents active in trans-border movements, a sense of tension descended in precursors of COVID spread the threat.

Such cases highlight the plight of unabated illegal immigration especially in Assam, Tripura and Northeast India as a whole.
