Assam: Violence at Dima Hasao's civil Hospital after youth dies

Haflong, May 19, 2019:

A situation of chaos has been prevailing at Assam Umrangsho hospital in Dima Hasao district of Assam after a youth died in the hospital on Saturday.

It is reported that the youth, Arjun Paul (28), was brought to the hospital on Saturday after he complained of breathing problems.

Paul breathed his last after a short while at the hospital. It has been alleged that the youth died due to the non-availability of oxygen in the hospital.

Following the news of his deaths, miscreants have started harassing the hospital authorities. Some miscreants have broken the doors of the hospital and also assaulted the in-charge of the hospital, Dr. M K Bailung, after the news spread that the youth died for not getting oxygen in time as the key of the store was with Dr. Bailung and Bailung was not in the hospital. It is also been alleged that  Dr. Bailung drunk after Paul’s death.

Thus, locals descended on the hospital claiming medical neglect. A local says that the hospital authorities were trying to give oxygen to the person after he had breathed his last. Moreover, the plug point where they inserted the oxygen machine did not have electricity. "The doctor was completely drunk. In fact, the doctor was the Hospital in-charge M K Bilung himself."

In footage that has reached Inside Northeast, some locals can also be seen roughing up hospital authorities.
