Assam Women to Launch Protest against C(A)A under AASU Banner

Guwahati, December 19, 2019:

All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has announced a week-long protest programme against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and has invited mass participation from all sections of the society. Under AASU banner an ‘all women a sit-in demonstration” programme have been announced across the state on December 21.

AASU general secretary, Lurinjyoti Gogoi has urged the people to attend the “Adya Shraddha” (rites performed after death) of C(A)A Movement martyr, Sam Stafford, on December 22.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi also mentioned that under AASU banner another demonstration for the general public on December 23. On December 24, 26 and 28, protest demonstrations will be launched all over the state, Lurin added.

It is to be mentioned here that the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill turned Act has led to a countrywide crisis with mass participation of youths (especially students) against the amendment of the Act.

The protest has also reached a global platform as Indians living in other countries have also participated in the stir against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act by posting videos in the social media handles where they can be seen decrying the controversial move.
