Guwahati: Women from Assam have been ranked highest in India when it comes to drinking alcohol, as per a report prepared by the Health and Family Welfare Statistics in India for the year 2019-20.
As per the report launched by the ministry, girls of Assam within the age 15 to 49 years have topped the list with 26.3% of them admitting to drinking. The nationwide average is 1.2%.
The proportion of girls of the identical age group who drink alcohol every week stands at 44.8% in the state.
Assam men within the age groups 15-54 years and 15-49 years have also topped the chart with 59.4 % and 35.6 % of people admitting to consuming alcoholic beverages.

In the meantime, the % of males consuming alcohol in Mizoram and Meghalaya is 6.8% and 54.6 %, taking the second and third place on the record. Girls in these two states, though not the bottom, the share for each stands at 4.8 % and eight.7 % respectively.
As for Nagaland, girls between the age of 15 and 54 years have come second-lowest within the record with 0.1 %. Nonetheless, among the many 0.1 % of girls, the state has the very best proportion of girls who eat alcohol as soon as per week with 65.5 %.
The report additional acknowledged that 17.7 % of females and 60 % of males in Assam between the age group 15-49 consume tobacco each day.
