Assam: Youth arrested for sexually assaulting two minors in Chapar

A distressing incident shocked the normally peaceful atmosphere of the Dhubri district's Chapar area when a youth was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing two young girls, aged eight and eleven.

The harrowing ordeal transpired on November 25, unravelling when the victims courageously disclosed the traumatic incident to their parents. 

The horrified parents, reeling from the shock of the revelation, promptly lodged a formal complaint at the Chapar police station, initiating swift action from law enforcement. The ensuing investigation identified the alleged perpetrator as Mrinal Barman, son of Sunil Barman and a resident of Paul Para, Chapar.

Police apprehended and forwarded Barman on Monday, subsequently placing him in judicial custody. Meanwhile, the victims received crucial counselling under the auspices of the Child Welfare Committee on Wednesday.

An FIR was registered against Mrinal Barman under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act on November 25, encompassing charges of 120(B)/354(A)/376(3)/511 IPC, R/w Sec 8 POCSO ACT.

The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation to delve into the motives behind the abhorrent crime, exploring any potential accomplices or additional involvement.

The reprehensible incident has ignited widespread outrage among the local populace, who fervently demand stringent measures and swift justice for the victims. Their collective voice resonates with an impassioned plea for ensuring the safety and security of all children within the vicinity, urging authorities to fortify measures to safeguard the vulnerable members of their community.
