Assam Youth Congress demands arrest of Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, February 5, 2019:

The Assam Pradesh Youth Congress staged a protest in front of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office located at Gorchuk in Guwahati.

Their demand?: The arrest of Assam Finance Minister and NEDA-convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma. Scores of protesters assembled in front of the CBI office and shouted slogans such as “BJP go back” and “arrest Himanta Biswa Sarma”. All hell broke loose as authorities too arrived at the scene and tried to control the situation.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is connected to the Sarada scam, should be arrested. Instead, the BJP is providing him with safeguards”, said a protestor.

Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister had raised the issues of Biswa Sarma’s involvement in the Saradha scam. “He (Himanta Biswa Sarma) was investigated in connection with the Saradha scam, but has been given a clean-chit since he has joined the BJP”, alleged ‘Didi’.

It is to be mentioned that the CBI is investigating Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in relation with the chit fund scam cases. Mamata has also alleged that the BJP is trying to politicize the issue to gain leverage for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
