Assam Youth Resigns from NASA to Serve in India as a Professor

Guwahati, August 11, 2019:

At a time when people are running after riches and fame, a young man from Guwahati city of Assam has set an inspiring example by parting with those very riches and fame to serve his country instead.

In a great example of commitment towards his own nation and its youth, Manabendra Saharia, hailing from Assam, has left his lucrative job at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the United States' space research organization, to return to his home country, India, to serve as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering in IIT Delhi, one of the premier Engineering institutions in the country, to enlighten and guide the budding scientists and engineers in the country.

He took to Facebook to share the news of his return to the country after eight long years in the United States. "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears", he wrote, adding, "I have been holding onto this news for some time. Pleased to finally be able to share that I will be joining IIT Delhi as an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering. It's the culmination of decade-long dream for me and I'm excited to turn a new page in life. A tad sad about having to leave my current job, but hyper-excited to be back in homeland after 8 years!"

He has been widely lauded for his selflessness by people of Assam. Sharing a picture of the young scholar, Dacebook user Luit Kumar Barman wrote, "Most of the people has a dream to work in NASA. Can you imagine a guy will resign from NASA to serve in India as a professor? Yes, he is Manabendra Saharia who has quit his service from NASA and all set to join as Asst Professor in IIT, Delhi. I wish very prosperous life of him. Rarest example he has set!"

Reacting to the post, user Swami Gautamanand wrote, "No brain drain movement", referring to talented youths moving outside the country in search of better employment opportunities.
