Assam’s 6th National Park to be set up in Dima Hasao

Guwahati, June 3, 2019:

Dima Hasao district of Assam is all set to take the pride of having the Sixth National Park “Simleng River Impenetrable National Park”. The park will consist of lush greens and many inaccessible jungles of the area.

The other five national parks of the state are Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri, Dibru-Saikhowa, and Orang.

The national park will cover approximately 100 sq km proposed protected area and form a large contiguous conservation belt along the adjacent Borail Wildlife Sanctuary of Cachar district and Nampuh Wildlife Sanctuary.

At present Dima Hasao already has Barail Reserve Forest covering 89.93 sq km, Langting Mupa Reserve Forest covering 497.55 sq km and Krungming Reserve Forest covering 124.42 sq km. These forests include flora and fauna- tiger, leopard, elephant, barking deer, wild dog, Gamari, Titachopa, Nahar, Bonsum, Bogipoma, Sal, etc.

It is to be mentioned that Kaziranga National Park and Manas National park are the older most recognized national parks in the state.

Dima Hasao (N. C. Hills) district is one of the two Autonomous hill districts of the state of Assam. The district headquarter Haflong is the only hill station in Assam, a tourist paradise, also named the Switzerland of the East. Dima Hasao comprises three subdivisions: (I) Haflong, (II) Maibang and (III) Diyungbra.
