At a time when employment is scarce and food prices are at an all time high, an enterprising woman from Assam's Jorhat district has caught the media eye for 23 years of commitment to the field of masonry, usually considered a man's domain.

Despite the tough nature of her job, the Assam woman, Anima Dutta, manages to put on a smile on her face as she crafts home and dreams in the Assam town and toils away cheerfully in the humid afternoons.

Talking to mediapersons who took note of her after her work came to light, Anima reveals that her entry into this profession was by a stroke of luck. Now, she boasts of aiding in the building of several monuments across town which stand as testimony to the immense hard work put in by this incredible mom.

A mother of two, she said that she put her two girls through school on the mere pittance that she receives as a daily wage labourer. However, despite her toil, she takes pride in her work. "I am have attained proficiency in the craft of masonry. Nobody has to show me anymore", she beams. She further adds that her efficiency ens "I never stop. I get so many assignments, that I cannot commit to them all."

Dutta says that although she had to struggle to make ends meet when her children were studying school, her untiring passion and dedication has ensured that she never goes out of money to buy food or supplies.

The unflinching dedication of Anima Dutta has earned her the praise of the people of Assam, and people have reacted to her story in a very positive way.

"Dutta's story proves that women are in no way less than men. She has set aside the stereotypes and her story can serve as a fable. Moreover, her dedication as a mother is truly commendable. Despite her struggles, she managed to ensure higher education for her children; that speaks volumes...", says Bonasmi Bora, a local advocate from Guwahati city of Assam who came across the story on social media.
