Assam's Lovlina Borgohain settles for Commonwealth Games boxing silver in women's 75kg

Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain had to settle for a silver medal in the women's 75 kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after finishing runner-up in the final on Sunday, August 1.
The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist delivered a spirited performance in the title bout but fell short of clinching the elusive Commonwealth Games gold, adding a silver medal to her international achievements.
Lovlina had entered the final in impressive form after defeating Tuvalu's Tarona Taafaki by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the semifinals to secure her place in the gold medal bout.
Ahead of the final, the 27-year-old had expressed confidence in her preparations and determination to win the title.
"Now that I have qualified for the finals, it will be even tougher. I will try my best to achieve gold this time. Our training has been good, and we are following what our coaches are teaching us. We will definitely be able to get the gold this time," she had said.
Although she missed out on the top podium finish, Lovlina's silver medal marks her first Commonwealth Games medal and adds another significant achievement to her decorated boxing career.
Hailing from Baro Mukhia village in Golaghat district of Assam, Lovlina is one of India's most accomplished boxers. She won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, followed it up with a gold medal at the 2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, and has consistently been among India's leading performers on the international stage.
