With an aim to maintain cleanliness and a pollution free environment, the Margherita Municipal Board has given a strict order regarding the usage of plastic and polythene bags at Margherita town in Assam's Tinsukia district.
The Margherita Municipal Board from 15 August onwards have directed the people of Margherita not to use polythene bags in Margherita town.
It may be mentioned that since the past month, Government authorities have been collecting garbage from door-to-door from the citizens of Margherita town. But if someone is found violating the rule, he/she shall be slapped a fine of Rs. 500-2000 or shall be punished according to existing laws. Earlier in June, the Additional District Magistrate Tinsukia, Gurnel Singh, by an order promulgated u/s 144 CrPC prohibited manufacturing, storage, distribution, selling, purchase and use of plastic carry bags and also plastic sachets/pouches for packing, selling of gutkha, tobacco and pan masala made of 50 micron thickness.
It is to be mentioned that the Guwahati Municipal Board have also (GMC) has launched Flying Squad and started a ‘Mass Awareness’ programme. A total of six flying squads consisting of six members each have been formed. 12 flying squad vehicles have been allotted to the team as of now. The squads will visit designated areas and collect the garbage.
