Assam's new cabinet to take oath at 12 noon tomorrow; find the list of probable ministers here

GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor, Himanta Biswa Sarma, will take oath as the 15th chief minister of Assam, at 12 noon tomorrow, at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here.

Meanwhile, preparations are being made for the oath-taking ceremony following all COVID protocols.

A few chief ministers of northeastern states and senior National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony.

Earlier, Sarma was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party today.

His name as the leader of the BJP legislature party was proposed by outgoing chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The legislative party meeting was held here, in the presence of central observers Narendra Singh Tomar and Arun Singh.

Senior leaders B L Santosh and Baijayant Jay Panda were also present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the BJP MLAs likely to be inducted into the ministry are state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Rajya Sabha member Biswajit Daimary, Jayanta Malla Barua, Pijush Hazarika, Hitendra Nath Goswami, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Siddhartha Bhattacharya and former Congress minister Ajanta Neog.

On the other hand, at least three ministerial berths will be given to BJP ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

President Atul Bora, working president Keshab Mahanta are confirmed of getting ministerial berths.

However, Gauhati West MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita may get a ministerial berth this time replacing Phani Bhushan Choudhury.

BJP's another ally, United People’s Party Liberal’s (UPPL) Kokrajhar East MLA Lawrence Islary and Udalguri MLA Gobinda Chandra Basumatary are likely to be inducted into the ministry.

Moreover, a couple of new faces could also make it to the ministry this time.

However, only nine ministers are likely to take oath tomorrow.

Rangia MLA Bhabesh Kalita could be the new Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA).

On the other hand, Ranjeet Kumar Dass could be replaced by either Rajya Sabha member Kamakhya Prasad Tasa or union minister and Dibrugarh MP Rameswar Teli, as the BJP state president.
