After the death of her father, Assam's Jamuna Boro grew up in poverty, but thankfully, she always had her mother as a constant source of inspiration.
The 23-year-old girl from Assam, who has assured herself of at least a bronze, will fight for a place in the 54kg final at the Worlds on Saturday. She will be up against top seed and former Asian Games bronze medallist, Huang Hsiao-Wen of Chinese Taipei.

Undaunted by the task at hand, she told mediapersons that she is confident of my victory, and has vowed to give it her all.
People will be astonished to learn that not to long ago, Jamuna used to help her mother Nirmala in selling vegetables by the roadside. Her father, Parshu, died when Jamuna was only 6 years old, raised her daughters and sons by selling vegetables. Jamuna was selected by the SAI regional sub-centre in Guwahati for boxing, and she slowly proved that she have what it takes to perform at the highest level.

Jamuna has disclosed that her mother would leave the house at six in the morning and come back only by eight in the evening. Despite financial shortage, Jamuna's mother spent a certain portion of whatever she earned on her wushu training, and later, on boxing.
The boxing star says that after she was selected for the SAI regional sub-centre in Guwahati for boxing, things became comparatively better.
Slowly but surely, the results started showing. From 2010-2012, Jamuna clinched gold medals in the 52kg category at the sub-junior women's nationals. She rose up the ranks
after winning international medals between 2013 to 2015 in Serbia, Bulgaria and Chinese Taipei.
After winning gold at the Indonesia President's Cup, Jamuna has not looked back. Jamuna's rags-to-riches story proves that hard work, grit and determination can overcome any odds in life.
