It is to be noted that Veerangana is India’s first female commando unit which officially came into existence during the tenure of erstwhile Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in the year 2012. The main objective of the 'Veeranganas' is to act against eve teasers in Guwahati city.

The Veerangana team is is also specially trained using techniques that mirror those taught to US marines, martial artists, bike riders and horse riders. They are also taughtto handle lethal as well as non-lethal arms.

The women commandos are seen sporting a black uniform with a violet cap. They are trained to swiftly carry out their tasks against eve teasers and probable mischief makers who pose a threat to the safety and dignity of women.
