DISPUR: The 15th Assam Legislative Assembly’s first budget session has begun today.
The opposition walked out of the house when the assembly refused to discuss a price hike for petrol-diesel-essentials.
Oppositions said fuel and essentials price hikes in the state have worsened the conditions of the general public amid the COVID-19 crisis and it is currently Assam's most burning issue.
They said if the price hike is not discussed in the assembly then what else will be discussed?
"Despite the fact that earlier state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that even if a proposal for adjournment is submitted in the Assembly that is of public interest and is urgent, the Assembly will discuss it," said Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi speaking to the media.

It's worth noting that when questions about the fuel and essential price hikes were being raised in the house, the speaker declared the house adjourned, but it continued, following that opposition leaders' walk out of the house, said AIUDF member Aminul Islam.
Gogoi further said, "The state government will have to allow us to discuss the issue of fuel and essentials price hikes in the state, and I will raise this matter again in the next assembly session under rules 54 and 301 of the Assam Legislative Assembly rule, and the government will have to answer."
He went on to say that if the government can not say anything on this issue of fuel price hikes then being and not having a government will be the same thing.
It needs to mention that earlier this week Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) also informed that between July 7 and 17, 2021, the Committees will stage a series of rallies against the spiralling price rises of petrol, diesel, and other essential goods.
It said that the protests will be carried with placards bearing slogans opposing price increases on essential items.
