The battle against the evil practice of child labour rages on as the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Dima Hasao organized an awareness programme on the Child and Adolescent labour (Prohibition And Regulation) Act 1986 at the circuit house on Tuesday.
The programme was held at the Circuit House in Haflong town where Abhijit Bhattacharya, District and Session Judge who is the Chairman of DLSA attended the programme as chief guest and spoke in length about various legal aspects involved regarding those who either engage or compel into child or adolescent labour.
Amitabh Rajkhowa, Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao informed as to how their district
task force comprising of the members from various other departments and NGOs have been working into stopping this illegal practice. He urged all the people of the society to be more aware and help them to bring child and adolescent labour to an end. He informed that there is a control room number ‘1098’ that can be used in order to inform or lodge complaints against the evil practice.
It may be mentioned that as recently, in a special drive carried out in municipal and rural areas, five minor children were rescued from bonded labour in Assam’s Hailakandi district.
