Guwahati, November 24, 2019:

Bangladesh Army and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a joint operation, recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from Habiganj district in Bangladesh, along the Assam-Tripura border on Saturday.

The team recovered 13 rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) and explosives from Satchari National Park in Chunarughat upazila. These ammunitions are suspected to be of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

Reportedly, Rapid Action Battalion-7 Commanding Officer (CO), Lt Col Moshiur Rahman Jewel confirmed the development. The raid was conducted around 5 kilometers deep into the forest, and 30 members of law enforcement agencies took part in the operation.

According to official sources, a joint force of 24th Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army and RAB-7 started a raid in Satchari National Park on Friday. The joint forces recovered the illegal items on Saturday noon and it has been reported that they later destroyed the explosives.

No one was arrested during the raid, however, a general diary was filed with Chunarughat Police Station.

It has been suspected that the ammunitions were brought to the spot around three months ago.

It may be mentioned here that on February 3, the RAB seized 10 anti-tank rockets during another drive in the forest. The armed forces found 14 sacks of ammunition in a bunker at a home in a tribal village in the forest, in 2014.
