Barpeta officials allegedly involved in ‘geotag’ project scam

Barpeta, March 12, 2019:

The locals of Vella Goan Panchayat have alleged that the Barpeta Development Circle’s accountant, Nipun Kalita along with Gram Rojgaar Sahayak Anowar Hussain and Kasim Ali are involved in a huge scam in the geotag project in the district.

More than 300 locals of the village gheraoed the Circle Office to register their complaint against the above-mentioned persons to the Circle officer, Mirnabha Devi. However, in the absence of Devi, the locals have given a verbal complaint to the Additional Accountant, Debajit Das.

The locals said, under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana, many people have been left out of the geotag. They said, “The President and the newly elected members of the Panchayat have been taking money in order to include their name in the scheme, those who have given money got included in the scheme whereas ones who did not were left out.”
