Zakir Hussain, the prime accused in the Batadrava rape case, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Nagaon on Friday.
The court found Zakir guilty on September 4 and pronounced the quantum of punishment on Friday.
Earlier, the police had arrested eight persons, including two juveniles. While the court found the 19-year-old Hussain guilty, five others were acquitted due to lack of evidence against them. The two juveniles were being tried by a juvenile court.
It may be mentioned that on March 23, the 11-year-old girl was gang-raped and set on fire at her home in Dhaniabheti Lalung Gaon in Nagaon district.
The police on April 28 had filed the charge sheet against the prime accused and seven others in connection with the case.
