BG Bonded Warehouse scam: Bonti Gogoi Pegu grilled again

Guwahati, October 8, 2018:

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) grilled Bonti Gogoi Pegu, proprietor of BG Bonded Warehouse, for the second straight day on Monday in connection with a case of evasion of taxes.

The allegation against her is that she had duped the state exchequer of over Rs.42 crore by furnishing forged documents. She was quizzed by the sleuths of ED for four hours on Sunday as well.

Liquor baron Rajesh Jalan was earlier arrested in connection with the case. According to reports, the ED might interrogate some others involved in the scam.

On Sunday, the ED had raided the houses and commercial establishments of one Rafikul Islam in Barpeta. He is said to be the brother of Jalan’s close aide Mujammil Haque.

Allegations galore Haque, who is an influential Congress leader in Barpeta, and his brother Islam had connived with Jalan in the multi-crore rupees tax evasion scam.
