In a significant move, the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan District has asked the Guwahati Municipal Corporation to remove all the "Bhaag Northeast Bhaag" hoardings in Guwahati. The order stated that the advertisement has created an adverse impact in the minds of the people in general.
The notice read as:
“With reference to the subject cited above, it has come to my notice through newspaper write-up of some renowned newspaper that the anonymous advertisement with a caption ‘Bhag Northeast Bhag’ written in Assamese’ in display hoardings erected in every nook and corner of the city which has created an adverse impact in the minds of the people in general. The word ‘Bhag’ in Hindi means run but in Assamese it does not carry the same meaning. It is just a negative and offensive call to run away or flee in Assamese dialect. In this regard, you are requested to take necessary measures to remove this hoardings from the roads of Guwahati and further not to allow such type of derogatory advertisement in the form of hoardings in greater public interest.”
It may be mentioned here that the "Bhaag Northeast Bhaag" teaser campaign is reported to be of a leading cement company.
