The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha (BGP) held a meeting of Central Office bearers at its headquarter office in Siliguri today. The meeting was presided by the National President Sh. Sukman Moktan. The meeting was in the context of the recent developments in J&K and Ladakh.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Sukhman Moktan, president of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha, said that , "Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha is committed to the creation of Gorkhaland and other states/ autonomous states as per the constitutional and democratic rights of the people."
"We resolve that BJP must now also fulfill its manifesto promise of finding permanent political solution for Gorkhas in India", he added.
The organization also said that the BJP must demonstrate the same political will and assert its majority in the Parliament to create the state of Gorkhaland as per the long-standing and democratic wish of the people of the region.
It may be noted that the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha is one of the founding member organisation of the National Federation of New States (NFNS) and the National Working President of the BGP is the Secretary General of the NFNS.
Speaking to this correspondent, Dr. Tamang thanked Bodoland People's Front Rajya Sabha MP from Bodoland Territorial Council Biswajit Daimary for raising the issue of Bodoland, Gorkhaland, Karbianglong autonomous state and others while participating in the debate on the J&K Reorganisation Bill, 2019 in the Rajya Sabha.
Dr. Tamang stated that Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha wants Government of India to find an immediate resolution to the long pending demand of Gorkhaland especially in the context of the sensitive chicken neck area that is crucial from the point of national security.
'The Government should table the West Bengal Reorganisation Bill at the earliest and create the state of Gorkhaland which the BJP has specifically mentioned in it's manifesto the Sankalpa Patra as permanent political solution a long pending demand of homeland for Gorkhas which dates back to 1907.' stated Nanda Kirati Dewan, National Secretary (Youth Affairs), Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha while talking to correspondents about his views on issue of Gorkhaland after bifurcation of J&K.
