Bhubaneswar Kalita, a former Congressman, who recently defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will be re-elected as Rajya Sabha MP soon. This was announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the Fourth NEDA Convention held in Guwahati city of Assam.
Bhubaneswar Kalita is a former Congress MP who resigned from the party on August 5 and joined the BJP.
In the letter, which is circulating online, Bhubaneswar Kalita laments the party’s stand against the revoking of Article 360 and 35A, which granted special status to Kashmiri citizens, citing it as the reason he has decided to sever his longtime association with the Congress party.
Kalita stated that the whip was against the nation’s sentiment, and stated that it was the reason which caused him to resign.
“The Congress leadership is trying to completely destroy the party. No one can stop the Congress party from destruction”, the letter stated.
Kalita was later formally inducted into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of its top leaders.
The Fourth NEDA Conclave is going on at Guwahati of Assam, where all the members of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) are present. All the Chief Ministers and the members have participated in the event.
