BIEO arrests forest official, contractor

Guwahati (Assam), Aug 14, 2018:

Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences (BIEO) on Monday arrested a forest official and a contractor for their alleged involvement in the sand mining scam in Upper Assam’s Golaghat.

The arrested persons have been identified as Protection Range Officer Jitendra Nath Dutta and contractor Mintu Saikia. Their arrest follows registration of a case under Sections 120(B), 420, 468, 471, 406, 409 and 34 of the IPC and Section 41 of the Assam Forest Regulation Act, 1995.

The two persons are under the BIEO custody and are being interrogated by the BIEO officials.
