GUWAHATI: Professor of the department of Sociology, Dibrugarh University, Dr. Jyoti Prasad Saikia has been appointed as the first vice-chancellor of Biranagana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyala in Golaghat district of Assam.
State education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulating professor Saikia on being appointed in the post hope that Saikia would take the university to new heights of academic glory.

“My heartiest congratulations to Dr Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Professor, Dept of Sociology, Dibrugarh University on being appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Biranagana Sati Sadhani Rajyik Vishwavidyala. I am certain you'll take this University to new heights of academic glory,” Sarma tweeted.
The establishment of the university was announced by the state government last year.
The university has been set up to commemorate the last queen of the Chutia dynasty, Sati Sadhani.
Minister Sarma earlier stated that it would follow the new guidelines of the new National Education Policy (NEP) that was implemented in the country in the same year, and would adopt a multi-disciplinary approach following the objectives of the NEP.
