DISPUR: Rajya Sabha MP and newly-elected Panery MLA Biswajit Daimary has been chosen by the BJP-led Assam government as the new Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. On the other hand, Bokajan MLA Numal Momin has been chosen as the Deputy Speaker.
This development was confirmed by Assam BJP president and Patacharkuchi MLA Ranjeet Kumar Dass earlier today.
The 47-year-old, who is a close confidante of Assam's current chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has held several important positions during his political career.

Daimary, one of the founders of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) party last year joined the BJP in an abrupt move that shook the political hemisphere of Assam.
Daimary, who was the BPF's working president, and Emmanuel Mosahary, an MLA, joined the BJP at a brief function at Sonowal's official residence, in presence of the party's state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and national general secretary Dilip Saikia.
It needs mention here that InsideNE had earlier reported that Daimary was being pegged for the role based on inputs from reliable sources.
Momin, a doctor by profession, is the first and only Garo community MLA in divided Assam.
The BJP has reason to smile in Assam where the ruling NDA coalition bested the Congress and its Mahajot allies in a fiercely fought election in 2021.
