Guwahati (Assam), 3 August 2018:

Bodoland People’s Front MP, Biswajit Daimary, has alleged that the national political parties never give any importance to the people of Assam and never select any person from the Northeast to hold the position of a cabinet minister.

Speaking to InsideNe, Daimary said, “We saw the MPs in the Parliament standing up for the 40 lakh suspected migrants in Assam but none of them stood up for Assam or the people of the state. They were seen to have sympathy for foreigners but not for the Assamese”.

He said the act by the MPs from national parties clearly showed that the foreigners, not Assam, were important to them.

“If Assam is not important to them, then the state should be given complete autonomy it was never a part of India. It was ruled by the kings and it was only after the independence movement that the state was brought under the Indian territory following pressure from the politicians,” Daimary said.

He alleged that Assam and the Northeast did not get the importance it deserved from the national level political parties as evident from the absence of any minister from the region in Narendra Modi’s Cabinet. He alleged that not even a single political party has any agenda for the benefits of the people of Assam.
