PANERY: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and member in the Rajya Sabha from Assam, Biswajit Daimary has won from the Panery constituency by a huge margin of over 35,000 votes defeating his arch-rival Karuna Kanta Swargiary of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
Polling for the Panery assembly constituency was held on April 1.
In the 2011 Assam assembly elections, Kamali Basumatari of BPF won from this constituency defeating Santiuse Kujur of India National Congress (INC) by a margin of 556 votes.
In the 2016 state assembly elections, Kamali Basumatari again won from the constituency defeating independent candidate Nanda Ram Baro by a margin of 15,802 votes.
Biswajit Daimary, born 4 February 1971, represents Assam in Rajya Sabha as a member of the BJP.
He was first elected as Member of Assam Legislative Assembly in 2001.

Later he was elected as Member of Parliament to Rajya Sabha in 2008.
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha for the second term in 2014 as a member of Bodoland People's Front (BPF).
In November 2020, Daimary left the BPF to join BJP before Bodoland Territorial Council elections.
On 21 November 2020, Daimary resigned from the Rajya Sabha. He was re-elected on 23 February 2021 from BJP.
