Guwahati, August 23, 2019:

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary has urged the MPs representing the tribal areas of Northeast to unite and demand ‘Tipraland’, the proposed state within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

While addressing the gathering on the 11th Tipraland Statehood Demand Day, Daimary said, “If the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders can make a resolution to form Autonomous State of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar Hills, then why can’t we demand the same for Tipraland?”

He suggested that the resolution for ‘Tipraland’ should be taken by the tribal Cell of the BJP, adding that it was of utmost importance to protect the interests of the tribal people.

The MP expressed his discontentment that despite continuous efforts of drawing the Centre’s attention, there has not been much progress. “It has been three months now. We have not received any update on the status of ‘Tipraland’. The Central government should inform us whether they can solve the issues of the tribal people residing in Tripura. We will stop demanding for a separate state if the government can provide us with a good report and protect the interests of our people,” he said.

Daimary further said that all the MPs representing the tribal areas of the Northeast states should come forward and speak on the need of ‘Tipraland’. “We should approach Union Home Minister Amit Shah and present the issues of the region and seek a solution for the same.

Tipraland is the name of a proposed state in India. Over the years, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), a political party, has been demanding for a separate state to safeguard the rights of the tribal population of Tripura.
