BJP and RSS want to create a country like Pakistan: Akhil GogoiAkhil Gogoi

Guwahati, February 14, 2019:

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, who spearheaded the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, has expressed his jubilation after the defeat of the Bill.

Addressing the media, along with leaders of 70 other organizations, he said: “We have defeated the Mughals, we have defeated Delhi”, he said, drawing parallels between the Battle of Saraighat where Lachit Borphukan defeated the invading Mughal army and the struggle of the people of Assam against the Bill.

Terming the struggle as a “classic revolt”, he added that the RSS and BJP are sworn enemies of the Assamese people. “They can never be friends to the Assamese”, he cautioned.

“This is a win for not just a win for Assam or Northeast, it is a win for the Indian democracy. The BJP and RSS want to create a country like Pakistan, and we foiled their attempts to turn India into Pakistan.”

“This is the greatest battle won by the people of Assam, but we were also aided in our struggle by the parties of the Northeast”, he added.

Gogoi also hailed the Assamese people for their part in overthrowing the Bill. “Assam people raised their voices first, and then the other powers joined the struggle. Nationalist fascism has always been an enemy of the Assamese people.”

“Struggle has shown who enemies are and who our allies can be”, Gogoi added.
