Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi has categorically criticized Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Ranjit Dass’s comments where he had demanded the Congress party to seek apology for the death of the 855 martyrs of the 'Assam agitation'. He also accused BJP of the force behind the alleged 'secret killings' in Assam.

Addressing the media, Tarun Gogoi accused the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) for the death of 855 martyrs and said, “It was during 1980 when Indira Gandhi visited Assam and gave the dateline of 1971. Had they accepted the demand of the masses, the 855 people would not have been martyred. Even Congressmen would not have died.”

Accusing BJP is being behind the 'secret killings' in Assam, Gogoi questioned, “Under whose instruction the secret killings took place?”. He added, “L K Advani rang me up during my tenure and suggested KP Gill’s appointment as the Governor of Assam, which I refused. Thus, his appointment was not possible.”
Speaking on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the veteran Congressman lamented that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is taking all sorts of oppressive measures to suppress the agitation.
Replying to the CM’s allegation that the Congress is behind the infiltration of foreigners, Gogoi said, “If Congress was responsible for the infiltration, CM Sarbananda Sonowal must be held responsible first, as he was the Assam Accord minister during that period.”
Moreover, Tarun Gogoi challenged BJP state president Ranjit Dass to resign from his post and contest in the fresh election if he is confident of winning.
