The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party candidate from Jorhat Lok Sabha Constituency Topon Kumar Gogoi has registered a thumping win over his nearest rival, the Congress party's Sushanta Borgohain.
Gogoi has won 5,14,520 votes in comparison to Borgohain's 4,33,201. It is a massive victory for the BJP party as Borgohain was initially considered a heavy favorite to conquer the Lok Sabha throne in the Upper Assam Constituency.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate from Lakhimpur Pradan Baruah has also prevailed. Baruah eased to a comfortable victory over his nearest rival, Anil Borgohain. Baruah won 7,61,131 votes, while Borgohain won 4,16,781 votes.
The battle for a total of 543 seats had started with elections in 91 constituencies across 20 states on April 11.
The election in the Northeastern states of India was held during the first three phases on April 11, 18, and 23.
Meanwhile, the Congress candidate and sitting Lok Sabha MP Sushmita Dev has been handed a bitter defeat in the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency by BJP’s Rajdeep Roy.
