Slamming that the government cannot stop the new thinking of the new generation, the Cotton University GS said, “They must be thinking that the students will be busy partying in the New Year, but it is not so. We are beginning the year with an anti-CAA protest."

Warning the government of serious consequences if they do not withdraw the Bill turned Act, Bordoloi further lamented, “The ‘jhumla’ of the government is plain for everyone to see as they are trying to shut down the voices of the people by giving them benefits. These are all their basic rights of the people which should have been given far before and they should take it. But the people should not stop raising their voices against the CAA rather, this should be utilized to empower themselves to fight against the CAA.

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh University general secretary Rahul Chetry slammed the government saying that the protest has been called to shock the government that is in ‘deep sleep’.

“Today, the students from every part of the country have started the with protest welcoming the new year with the slogan ‘defend the Constitution’.

Slamming that the government has forgotten the meaning of secularism, equality and fundamental rights, the Dibrugarh University GS further urged the leaders representing the Assamese community to study what is written in the Constitution, Assam history, and the 'Assam Accord'.

Meanwhile, Tezpur University general secretary Abhishek Bora said that on the first day of the year, the students have sat down for a protest rather than going for picnic or party, because it is the urgent need-of-the-hour. " The 'Assam Accord' was an outcome of long agitation where 860 people were martyred but the BJP government is violating it by implementing the CAA", Bora further alleged.
