All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and APCC, Harish Rawat on Monday alleged that the Sarbananda Sonowal led government is solely responsible for the hooch tragedy in Golaghat and Jorhat districts of Assam. He also briefed the media regarding Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam tomorrow.
Harish Rawat informed that Congress president Rahul Gandhi will address a public gathering at 1:30 pm in Khanapara Veterinary Science College Ground in Guwahati that will start by paying homage to deceased of the hooch tragedy. At 3:45 pm, he will attend a meeting with North-East Co-ordination Congress Committee at Srimanta Sankaradeva International Convention Centre in Guwahati and at 4:45 pm, he will attend a meeting with North-East DCC and BCC Presidents at the same venue.
Addressing the media, Rawat said, “The Sarbananda Sonowal led- government is solely responsible for such a tragedy and has completely failed in providing treatment to the victims. The syndicate of illegal spurious liquor has been politically secured by a group of people. We have been pointing that out, but no actions were taken which has resulted in such a large number of deaths in the state. Those undergoing treatment should be given necessary compensation by the Government.
On the issues of North East, Rawat added, “The BJP government is playing with the emotions people of North East, first they came up with issues in National Register of Citizens (NRC), then the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and now the issue of Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) in Arunachal Pradesh.”
