The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has staged a maha (massive) rally at Rowta in Assam’s Udalguri district demanding separate statehood. Cries of “No Bodoland no rest”, which have been echoing in the region for several decades, continue to be raised in the region. The President of the ABSU, Pramod Bodo, was also present at the event and he expressed his distaste for the Government’s approach towards the multiple issues faced by the Bodos. The marchers raised cries demanding the scrapping of the 'ST Bill' that seeks to provide scheduled tribe status to six communities of Assam.

While addressing the media, Bodo said: “Rajnath Singh had assured us that the issues of the Bodos would be resolved. He had also promised safeguards to Bodos residing outside the BTAD areas as well as accordance of ST (H) status to Bodos in Karbi Anglong. The 5-year tenure of the Government is almost up, and they are yet to fulfill those promises.” Bodo also promised dire consequences for the existing BJP Government in the 2019 elections if they continue turning a blind eye towards the Bodo issues.
Pramod Bodo has also protested the Government’s promise of ST status to six prominent communities of Assam, alleging that it will harm the interests of the existing STs. He further condemned BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary’s nonchalant attitude towards the issue. “Their politics won’t last long, the drama won’t last long. They are playing both sides. Hence, we are requesting them to clarify whether they are with the Bodos or with other parties”, he added.
