GUWAHATI: Himanta Biswa Sarma today filed his nomination papers for the Jalukbari Constituency, thereby sealing his candidature in the ensuing polls that shall be held in 3 phases.
BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma first held a massive roadshow ahead of filing his nomination papers from Jalukbari constituency for the upcoming Assam assembly elections. The roadshow commenced from the Sonoram field -- where a slew of cultural programmes was held -- and culminated in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office at Panbazar.
Notably, the NEDA convenor was also joined by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh, among other high-profile politicos.
"My heartfelt gratitude to Union Ministers Sri Narendra Singh Tomar & Sri Rameswar Teli, HCM Sri Sarbananda Sonowal , Manipur CM Sri N Biren Sing, BJP National Vice President Sri Baijayant 'Jay' Panda, BJP National General Secretary Sri Dilip Saikia, MP Sri Bhubaneswar Kalita, AGP President Sri Atul Bora, AGP Working President Sri Keshab Mahanta and UPPL President Sri Promod Boro for accompanying me to my nomination filing program for #AssamAssemblyPolls today," Sarma wrote on Twitter, moments after filing his papers.
Barring a miracle, the BJP heavyweight is all set to become MLA for the fourth consecutive term. In 2016, Biswa Sarma tallied 1,18,390 votes, leaving Congress' Niren Deka behind in the dust.
AIUDF leader Rafiqul Islam, Raijor Dal's Diwas Phukan and Assam Jatiya Parishad's Sukur Ali have submitted nomination papers for the same Constituency.
