NALBARI: With Assembly elections getting nearer Assam, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jyotirmoy Sharma fired salvoes at party mate Chandra Mohan Patowary, a Minister in the Sarbananda Sonowal cabinet.

Sharma, who is also seeking a BJP ticket from Patowary's Home Constituency of Dharmapur, has labelled the formidable BJP leader as a "failed Minister", and accused him of "accumulating wealth for himself."

Taking potshots at the Transport Minister, he said, "Patowary has done nothing but accumulate more and more wealth for himself and lead a lavish lifestyle. If proper investigations are carried out in this Constituency, many, including some government officials, shall be arrested."

Claiming that people associated with Patowary are involved in "illegal activities" in the region, Sharma urged upon the people to vote the people "misusing" the people's money out of power.

"Despite having a Minister representing us in the Assembly, what have we gotten? Roads are so horrible that once a car passes, it leaves behind clouds of dust. Patowary's legacy is zero," he added.

Addressing media persons as a "citizen", Goswami further added, "Dharampur is lagging behind the other adjoining Constituencies. No college here offers Science courses here due to which the students are not getting a platform. Who is responsible? Of course, it is the people's representative. Till now, there is not a 200-bedded hospital here. We do not have a model school here."

Raising charges of "corruption" in the Assembly Constituency, Goswami further charged that netas have used funds allocated for developmental works.

"The local politicians have built 2 km stretches of road after taking funds to build 3 km. With their ill-gotten wealth, they have sent their children to study abroad. Where will the children of the locals -- who brought the politicians to power -- go? Here, we do not have tin roofs covering the schools for which the leaders are culpable," he further charged.
