Guwahati, January 14, 2019:

In yet another rude jolt to the BJP after widespread protests had shaken the ruling party in the state, BJP leaders have also been banned from entering the Gauhati University campus.

The Gauhati Univerity Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) members had made their stand clear when they staged a ten-hour hunger-strike in front of the university to protest the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Speaking to InsideNe, University General Secretary Nayan Jyoti Gogoi said: “After a meeting, we have decided to organize a series of protests on the 14th, 25th as well as 30th of January. We want to make people aware about the provisions of the Assam Accord.”

The university student body also aims to create awareness about the dangers of the proposed Bill through social media.

He also stated that BJP leaders, such as Padma Hazarika, who oppose the Bill will not be barred from entering university premises.

It may be mentioned that the Bill seeks to provide citizenship status to all Non-Muslims from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to the country before 2014.
