Guwahati, December 11, 2018:

The Congress party is jubilant ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections after wrapping up election victories in the pivotal states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. A newly energized Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, has mounted a comeback against all odds that promises even-footing when both parties gotoe-to-toe next year. With these key victories, the Congress has established itself as aforce to be reckoned with as the Lok Sabha elections loom.

But despite the triumphs, the Congress lost their stronghold in Mizoram to the Mizo NationalFront (MNF), who are most likely to form a government with the BJP-backed NEDA (North Eastern Democratic Alliance). In another setback, theCongress was unable to make inroads in Telangana, with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS)snagging 87 out of 110 seats. In view of these results, it can be concluded that the public inthe Hindi-belt of Indian politics have rejected the BJP’s brand of saffron-nationalism in search of“achche din”.
