In a sensational development, agitators in Duliajan set fire to the private residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rameswar Teli on Wednesday night.
A source told Inside Northeast that a mob gheraoed Teli's residence in Tipling of Duliajan as soon as the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha last night.

"Security personnel turned up and used tear gas to disperse the irate protesters, but to no avail. They stood their ground and at one point, brought out torches and set fire to Teli's residence. In retaliation to this, the authorities opened fire on the mob."
It has been reported that as many as 14-15 people have been injured in the attack, and two of the protesters are said to be in critical condition. According to reports, three security personnel have also been injured during the clash.

Amid the rage that has erupted across Assam over the knotty issue of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, thousands across Assam have spilled onto the streets in protest.
Meanwhile, an indefinite curfew has been imposed in Guwahati after the situation turned volatile, with as many as 25 people getting injured after protesters clashed with police in Guwahati.
Moreover, fearing further escalation of the protests, the Assam Government has suspended internet services in as many as 10 districts of the state: Kamrup (M), Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivsagar, Jorhat, and Golaghat.
