NEW DELHI: With the elections in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) approaching fast, the BJP national parliamentary board Friday formally approved the joining of Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary in the saffron party. Daimary is expected to join the party at a formal function in the presence of State Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Another high-profile Bodoland People's Front (BPF) leader -- Emmanuel Moshary -- is also expected to join the saffron party ahead of the Council polls.

Meanwhile, Assam State BJP President Ranjeet Dass yesterday said that a final decision on the split between his party and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) will be decided after the polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region. The elections will be held in two phases on December 7 and December 10.
Addressing the media after a meeting between top-rung leaders of the party in New Delhi, Dass said no decision in connection to ending the alliance was taken. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, MP Dilip Saikia, BJP India President JP Nadda and Union Minister Amit Shah were present during the meeting held at Nadda's residence in New Delhi.

Addressing media persons after the meeting, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma exuded confidence that the BJP would emerge as the single largest party in the polls and form the Government in the BTC.
This comes days after Himanta Biswa Sarma -- BJP's point man in the Northeast -- had declared that the alliance is over and it is for the BPF to see the "writing on the wall." Sarma had even asserted that there would be no more discussions on the matter in New Delhi.
