BJP parliamentary board meeting postponed; decision on Assam CM unlikely today

GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s parliamentary board meeting will most likely take place tomorrow as the party’s national president J.P. Nadda is in Kolkata today, said Assam BJP top leader Himanta Biswa Sarma this morning.

“I do not believe that any meeting is going to take place today as our party national president is in Kolkata. It may take one more day or two. We have to be patient as decisions will be made in Delhi,” said Sarma talking to the media outside his government residence here.

Asked about Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s visit to Assam, Sarma said: “I am not sure about it.”

BJP state unit president Ranjeet Kumar Dass asserted before the media this morning that Tomar will visit Assam, will have a discussion with the elected MLAs or few other persons to take their views regarding the selection of the next CM of Assam and will fly back to Delhi.

At this moment, the run for the CM office in Assam is going between incumbent Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma.

If Sonowal has secured a position in the party by joining earlier with his simple appearance and clean image, Sarma has also proven himself by rooting Congress out of not only Assam but for other northeastern states as well by forming alliances between regional parties and the BJP and became the convenor of North East Democratic Alliance.

Now both of them are waiting for a parliamentary board meeting to clear the air between the two.
