After the allegations of involvement of maoists in the torching of Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika’s residence by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ranjeet Dass, All Assam Students Union (AASU) Chabua unit and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) members have alleged BJP that the saffron party's workers themselves have orchestrated the crime.
The KMSS members have turned down heavily on the BJP state president Ranjit Dass for his statement of involvement of maoist and KMSS members in the arson case of the Chabua MLA and government offices in the region. Accusing Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia and Ranjit Dass to be maoists instead, a local lashed out at BJP President Dass for terming the public as "maoists."
The KMSS Chabua unit's President, meanwhile, has stated that the KMSS was not involved in the torching case, and claims that the police have arrested two local BJP workers in relation to the case and sent them to jail.
Meanwhile, speaking with Inside Northeast, SP Sreejith Tiraviam said, “The police is investigating the matter and six people have already been arrested so far. Two have been identified as Bidyut Baruah and Bikash Baruah and have been booked under case no. 392/19. However, we cannot ascertain that they are BJP workers."
